Taking Back Control - Levels of Mental Wellbeing for Lawyers
Workshop with Will Hurrell
Background to the Workshop
Lawyers are highly regarded professionals who play a critical role in key aspects of business and society more generally. Their work can be extremely pressured with recent research from the Law Society showing that 95% of lawyers have at least some negative stress in their jobs and more worryingly, 17% reporting that they suffer extreme stress. Those who work in private practice in particular, face both the pressures arising from their case work as well as the demands from their firms for billable hours which can lead to long working days. All of these issues considerable impact individuals and other employees, the companies they work for and their personal relationships.
Our workshop is broken down into three key components. The first is discussing what is mental health is in general, as well as the specific factors impacting on the wellbeing of lawyers. The second component of the workshop is to equip participants with an understanding of the issues around mental wellbeing and to provide them with a “toolkit” of strategies they can use to mitigate stress levels before they start having a more serious impact on their mental and overall wellbeing. Finally at the end of the workshop there will be an opportunity to email Will Hurrell directly with what issues impact you directly and what you would do differently.
About the Content Creator, Will Hurrell
The workshop is led by former leading Professional Rugby player, Will Hurrell, who has himself experienced challenges to his own mental health as a result of an injury incurred at a premier league game which forced him to retire from rugby. Will has since forged a new career path coaching others around mental wellbeing, and now also works with organisations to equip their managers with more empathetic management/leadership styles. As a Director of Blue Pencil Legal, Will is no stranger to working with lawyers.
